Call to Action and HB 624
Calling NP's, student and graduates. WE NEED YOU!!!!
TNP will be sending out a "Call to Action" asking nurse practitioners to come to Austin every Tuesday and Wednesday until the middle of May. Besides legislative visits, we want to begin educating our members on the legislative process and having them view firsthand what it’s like to testify in committee. This will allow volunteers who come to town an opportunity to provide witness testimony during committee hearings or to submit witness affirmation cards on various bills that we may or may not support. Be involved! Have a Voice!
Also: HB 624 (Zedler). In January, Representative Bill Zedler (R-Arlington), a member of the House Committee on Public Health, filed HB 624. If HB 624 passes, it will prohibit managed care plans from differentiating among providers the amount paid or the method used to compute the amount paid an APRN for a covered service within the scope of the APRN. In other words, “same pay for the same work.” Current law allows health insurers to provide for a different amount of payment or reimbursement for services or procedures performed by an APRN if the methodology used to compute the amount is the same as the methodology used to compute the amount of payment or reimbursement for services or procedures performed by a physician.
CNAP’s position is to support HB 624, and we encourage you to express your appreciation to Representative Zedler for filing this bill especially if you live in House District 96 in Tarrant County. House Bill 624 has been referred to the House Committee on Insurance, but it has not yet been set for a public hearing.
