NTNP Board recommendations

Dear members and followers of North Texas Nurse Practitioners; Metro West,

We had a great attendance at our last night meeting. Thank you for all that showed up. We discussed some great things on our horizon.

I brought up the recommendation from the Board to increase our NTNP MW membership dues effective January 1, 2014. There has been no dues increase in over 6 years. Many things have required an increase in funds. We have increased our commitment to support Full Practice Authority for all NPs in Texas. We do this by our contribution of the TNP Advocacy Project at the local affiliate level. We are looking to start awarding one of our Masters NP and one of our DNP students with scholarships. We support community agencies such as Presbyterian Night Shelter, Edna Gladney, and Diapers for Dollars. Support for these ongoing philanthropies takes money. We will also be awarding a complimentary annual TNP state conference every year.

Our current website will soon be able to keep track of our members more efficiency. In a short time it will give personal notifications to you when your membership is approaching expiration. Once paid you will receive an automatic email with a membership card and switch you to an active paid member. Going forward, only paid members will be able vote and attend dinner meetings. I recognize many members think they are current in their dues. But in actuality, they are in rears. This dissolves the Board of the uncomfortable position of asking for members’ dues and will allow us the funds to keep the group solvent. However, this service is not free.

The recommendations are to increase dues for:

Full active and retired NP’s $50, annually.

Associate members (those that are not NPs but supportive i.e., PAs, MD/DOs, Pharmaceutical representatives) $50, annually

Student NP (MS or DNP) $30, annually

We would like to see the changes go into effect Jan 1, 2014. Until then, if you have not paid for 2013, please do so now. Otherwise you will not able to vote on this change. Going forward, we will not be January to January but twelve months from the time you paid your dues. We will soon post the time when you can vote.

Remember our next meeting is Oct 8th at JR'S Steakhouse in Colleyville with the Dallas Chapter. Please RSVP by Oct 4th. Because this will be a large meeting, only those members that are current with their dues will be able to attend, for both groups.

I want to express personal support for the board and its recommendations. It sounds like a good improvement over the current system that makes record keeping and dues communication difficult. Other association groups are also taking similar steps to improve operations. Since these improvements have expenses, it makes common sense that the dues need to go up a little. $15 a year is not going to cause anyone to give up these wonderful educational opportunities. Just the cost of one of these venues if we were paying individually, offsets the fee increase. Rick
